Commercial candles often contain paraffin and synthetic fragrances. Making your own candles from natural waxes creates a cleaner burning experience.

Basic Soy Container Candle

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound soy wax flakes
  • Pre-tabbed cotton wick
  • 1 ounce essential oils
  • Heat-safe container

Instructions:

  1. Prepare container: Center and secure wick
  2. Melt wax: Heat to 170-180°F using double boiler
  3. Add fragrance: Let cool to 135°F, add essential oils, stir
  4. Pour candle: Slowly pour into container
  5. Cure: Let cool 12-24 hours, trim wick to 1/4 inch

Scent Combinations

  • Relaxing: Lavender + cedarwood + vanilla
  • Energizing: Peppermint + lemon + rosemary
  • Cozy: Orange + cinnamon + clove

Troubleshooting

Tunneling

Wick too small or first burn wasn't long enough.

Smoking

Wick too large or needs trimming.

Poor Scent

Not enough fragrance oil or candle not cured long enough.

Handmade candles make meaningful gifts and create ambiance without synthetic chemicals.
